Connector Carla:  When i read that Stanley had look at the mountain and it still did not look any closer it reminded me of when i am running a race and i can see the finish line but it just dosent look closer the further i run.

1)  Why would zero run away.
2)  Why could Stanley not teach zero how to read any more.
3)  Why was Mr Pendanskey's face sleep swolen.
4)  Why did Stanley wantto go and rescue zero.
5)  Why did the warden want to get rid of all of zero's records.

The air becomes unbearably humid and Stanley drenches in sweat and there is a storm way off to the west, beyond the mountains. Squid wants it to rain so hard so it can fill up the whole lake so they can go swimming. The electricity in the air  had made Zigzag's frizzy blond hair stuck almost straight out. Stanley saw an unusual rock formation on top of one of the mountains that looked to him like a giant fist with the thumb sticking straight up.  Stanley's great grandfather said " I found refuge on God's thumb" after Kate Barlow had robbed him and left him stranded in the desert. No one understood what he meant. His father told him how his great grandfather always talked about how a nurse always dabbed him with a cool wet cloth and he thought she was an angel. The storm moved off father west, along with any hope of rain. In Stanley's mind, instead of the lightning flashing behind the thumb, it was coming out of the thumb of God.Zigzag said it was his birthday. Stanley tried to figure out how long he'd been at Camp Green Lake for, but Zero calculates that Stanley has been at Camp Green Lake for forty-six days. Stanley learnt not to doubt him when it came to math. Stanley said to himself that the 45th hole was the hardest but he knew it wasn't. Mr. Sir no longer deprived Stanley with water. Zero dug some of Stanley's holes each day. Stanley realizes that he might be near where Kate Barlow robbed his great-grandfather, and that she must have lived somewhere around Camp Green Lake. Zigzag and the other boys teased Stanley because Zero dug part of his hole. They told him that he must go to the front of line. He thought that he shouldn't let Zero dig part of his hole but he needed energy to teach. Zigzag started beating Stanley then Zero grabbed Zigzag around the neck to pull him off Stanley. Armpit freed Zigzag form being choked and then the 3 boys fell to the ground in different directions which made Mr Pendanski fire his gun into the air, which caused the other counsellors and the Warden to come out to the lake. The Warden heared that Zero had been digging part of Stanley's holes and Stanley told her that they had a deal for him to teach Zero how to read and write. The Warden tested Zero with easy spelling words and Zero got 1 of them wrong, so Mr Pendanski called him stupid. Zero said he isn't digging another hole. The Warden said to Stanley that if Zero digs of his hole it wont teach him a lesson but Stanley knew they weren't digging just to learn a lesson.  The Warden was looking for something that once belonged to Kissin' Kate Barlow. Mr Pendanski handed Zero a shovel and said that it's all he will ever be good at, then Zero swang it around like a baseball bat and the metal blade smashed across Mr Pendanski's face. He was unconscious before he hit the ground and was knocked out.  Zero backed up past the holes and disappeared into the dessert. The Warden ordered the counsellors to guard the campus day and night.Stanley was angry at the other boys, his great-great grandfather and himself for asking Zero to dig part of his holes. His stayed on lake on the hottest part of day to dig both his and Zero's hole long after the others boys had gone in. Stanley thought about going after Zero and the two of them climbing to the top of Big Thumb, but he realised that they would have to eventually have to come back to camp and face the Warden and her rattlesnake fingers. Stanley thought he could make a deal with the Warden. He would tell her he really found the golden tube if she wouldn't scratch Zero. He wasn't shore on how he would make the deal without getting into deeper trouble. He was scared if he would get X-Ray into trouble. Zero didn't returned the next morning and Stanley hopes that he has found God's thumb. The Warden tells Mr Pendanski to destroy all his records as if he were never at Camp Green Lake. Mr Pendanski said he doesn't think he can erase him completely from the state files because there were to many cross references but he said he could make them difficult to find.

In these few chapters Stanley was telling us about how  Kissin Kate kissed the onion picker and everyone trashed her classroom because they did not like it.  And how Kissin Kate left his great grandfather stranded in the dessert.  We also read  that Stanley was trying to  teach Magnet how to write so Magnet would dig half of Stanleys hole each day.  And also how Magnet stole the sack of sunflower seeds and Stanley messed some and he got into trouble.  Mr Pendanskey took Stanley to the wardens office and said that Stanley said he stole the sack of sunflower seeds but he thinks Stanley was just covering up for Magnet so the Warden got angryy and slapped Mr Pendanskey through the face.  A fter that Mr Pendanskey was very mad at Stanley so whenever the water truck came Mr Pendanskey would throw Stanleys water on the ground.

I relate the character Kate Barlow and her spiced peaches from this book because some mothers make peaches and take them to fairs and markets.  One time I went to a Stellenbosch market and people had bought tiny peaches in a glass jar for the competition that they had at the end of the day for the tastiest jar of peaches.

When Stanley covered up for magnet about stealing the bag of sunflower seeds it reminded me of when friends cover up for friends so that they don't look like the bad ones.

1. What-would be the hardest hole to dig for Stanley.
2. Was-it fair to let Stanley have a day off or not for finding a fossil.
3. Should-Stanley help Zero.
4.  What-did Mr sir and the warden want.
5. Was-it faster to have two people helping each other with one hole or one person dig their own hole.

Stanley got told that the second hole was the hardest
because the first day he got lots of blisters and sores on his hands and he was very tired. X-ray asked him if he ever found any ]thing interesting he must give it to him because he had been at Camp Green Lake for a year and he thinks that he deserves a break! Stanley found a gold tube and didn't want to give it to X-ray because he wanted a day off. X-ray showed Mr Pendanski the gold tube and hoped that he got the day off. The Warden came to speck to x-ray and she was very tall and she wore a cowboy hat and a cowboy boots, she had red hair and nails. She said that x-ray could have a double shower and the rest of the day off. And she told Mr Pendanski to reful there things off water. Days went by and Stanley got a reply from his mother, that day that he got the reply from his mother X-ray had stolen a bag of Mr Sir's sunflower seeds! He shared the around with he other boys and one of the boys thought it to Stanley and he dropped it in his hole, and the sunflower seeds spilled ever were! Mr sir asked hum what happened and he said that he stole them and covered X-ray by not telling that X-ray actually did it. Mr Sir said that he is going to take him to the warden! They arrived and they knocked on the door and she said 'come in'.  Mr Sir said what he had done but he said that he thinks that he is covering for another boy! and he is ling to him and he said that he finished the hole sack by himself and its weights 25pounds! The warden hit Mr Sir across the face with her just painted red nails and her secret ingredient is snake venom! So it went on Mr Sir face! All the warden said was just go back digging your hole.

There is no lake at camp green lake. Stanley was on the bus to camp green lake
thinking of what he did. The judge said jail or camp Green lake. There are only
two trees with a hammock underneath where the Warden stays. Stanley Yelnats was
the only passenger on the bus with a driver and two cops. The road began to get
rather bumpy as the paving was getting worse.
Why Stanley landed up at
Camp Green Lake, he was quite big and got teased by his teacher and other
children. There was one kid Derrick who took Stanley's books and put them in the
toilet then he was late for the bus and had to walk home.

While he
was walking home this pair of shoes fell from the sky they were from a famous
baseball player.  He suddenly started to run when he saw the police car and
he stoped me and that how he landed up hear. The bus polled to a jolt the
policemen uncuffed me and said go to the little hut under the trees. Their sat a
man with his feet on the desk he said you will have two pears of cloths and if
you dig up something interesting let me know. Be careful of the yellow spotted
lizard. OK said Stanley. He began to dig my first hole my hands were sore and
every part in my body he was the last one two finish. He walked back and got
into a shower and that four minutes went so fast over my acing body.

Camp Green Lake is a horrible place for naughty boys like Stanley which has no
lake but does have rattlesnakes, scorpions and the most dangerous creature on
the empty lake the yellow-spotted lizard when bitten you cant do anything but
die a slow and painful death. In Camp green lake all the naughty boys do every
day is to dig a hole exactly five feet wide and five feet deep they measure it
with the spade which is exactly five feet long. Stanley is no naughty boy he is
just always in the wrong place in the wrong time. He only went to Camp Green
Lake because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He was one day just
walking under an overpass and random sneakers just feel from the sky and he
didn't realize that the sneakers belonged to Clyde Livingston. Someone had
robbed a home less shelter but it was not Stanley,he was just at the wrong place
at the wrong time but know Stanley was stuck in Camp Green Lake. For information
read Holes I highly recommend it.

1. How?-  Do you think Stanley was feeling when he got to

camp?

2. Why?- Do you think there weren't any guards or
any
other barriers to keep the boys from running away from

the camp?

3. What?- Would have happened if Stanley
Yelnats
got bitten by a yellow-spotted
lizard?

4.Which?- Man had a
better
personality, Mr. Sir or Mr. Pendanski?

5. Who?- Was Stanley
Yelnats?

6. Should?- Stanley's crime be called

despicable?

7. Why?- Do you think the boys would want to
wreck the
'Wreck Room'?

I relate the
character Myra  from this book to some boys who only like girls because
they are pretty and they  don't look what's in the inside of the person.

There are  apparently game ranger camps where young
boys have been tortured if they didn't  do what they were told, this
is like in the book where the boys had to dig 5  meter holes at
camp.
